Flu and cold season to end in 2-3 weeks

The final period of March should put an end to the current season of flu and respiratory infections, according to optimistic estimates. “We expect respiratory infections to last three more weeks, and two weeks more weeks of flu”, Raisa Popovici, the head of the Infections Department at Toma Ciorba Hospital, told Info-Prim Neo. “I can't say for sure if we have an epidemic now, but we surely have a lot of cases”, she added. If not treated adequately and on time, respiratory infections tend to cause complications which may lead to more serious respiratory tract diseases, like pneumonia, chronic bronchitis and laryngitis etc. “Improving immunity, dressing suitably to the cold season, eating foods rich in vitamins, avoiding staying in wind drafts and drinking cold beverages – are some basic tips which should keep any person out of trouble”, said Raisa Popovici. From the beginning of the year, there were registered 145 cases of flu and over 5,000 cases of acute respiratory infections in Chisinau. As of March 1, there were registered 445 cases of flu across Moldova.
