“Don’t promote corrupt judges in the system!” – chanted members of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS), who came together in front of the Superior Council of Magistracy where the president and two vice presidents of the Supreme Court of Justice and the presidents of the Chișinău, Bălți and Comrat Appeals Court are be chosen on July 28. Later, members of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” (PPPDA) came and entered the SCM’s hall, interrupting the meeting and leaving black bags there (allusion to the black bag that President Igor Dodon received from the former Democratic leader Vlad Plahotniuc and that was presumably with money, e.n.), IPN reports.
The PAS members came with placards with such messages as “Dodon – promoter of corrupt judges”, “Plahotniuc’s servants promoted by Dodon”, “NO to corrupt judges!”, “SCM, be courageous and don’t promote corrupt judges in the system!” etc. The party’s president Maia Sandu told the press that she came to encourage the members of the SCM not to allow to be used by Igor Dodon and to promote persons who deserve and who will not play dirty political games.
“During four years in office, Igor Dodon promoted a lot of corrupt persons. Now he tries to name discredited persons who lost a lot of cases at the ECHR. For example, Vlad Clima is to blame for upholding the decision to invalidate the elections in Chisinau. We came here to demand that the SCM members should not do harm to other people, until we ultimately do the justice sector reform and clear the judicial system of all those who are corrupt, and should not appoint odious and corrupt persons to posts,” stated Maia Sandu.
PPPDA leader Andrei Năstase said the conceding of power to Igor Dodon in 2019 costs too much and this person should be stopped, noting the distribution of posts, including in the justice system, is inadmissible. Asked why the party didn’t join in other parties in the protest, the politician said the activities weren’t coordinated and this is a pity as the PPPDA made a call for unity.
The SCM meeting started at 9am and continued after 11:30am.
