The five people who intended to set fire to the access door of the Central Election Commission and the cars of its members, between the first and second rounds of the presidential election, will appear before judges. The three men and two women aged between 19 and 42. All of them, except for the driver of the car by which they were transported, admitted their guilt, IPN reports.
The Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases said that the young women were persuaded by the leader of the group to assume the role of companion of two of them. They were to film the scene when they were to throw the Molotov cocktail-type flammables into cars and the institution for later reporting to the coordinator, who was presumably in Moscow. As for the latter, as he was identified, the criminal investigation continues.
The five were promised $5,000, depending on the extent to which they would have implemented the plan. Thus, they bought flammables, medical masks and gloves, left Tiraspol for Chisinau with a borrowed car on the evening of October 30, 2024. At the checkpoint in Varnița, two of them got out and crossed on foot, separately from the car in which the young women and the driver remained, so as to avoid suspicion.
Arriving in Chisinau at around 10:00 p.m., they did not find the cars of the CEC members. Then, the coordinator in Moscow contacted them by phone and gave them instructions to go to Dubăsarii Vechi village, where the vehicles were not located either. Therefore, after midnight, they returned to Chisinau.
Thus, on the night of October 31, the five appeared in front of the CEC building to set fire to the door. However, employees of "Fulger" Brigade noticed them and thwarted their plan.
Under the Criminal Code, the crime is punishable with a fine of up to 67,500 lei, 180 to 240 hours or community service or with at most three years in prison.
