Five employees of Antidrug Office to stand trial

Five senior officers of the Antidrug Office situated in northern Moldova will be tried for passive corruption. The Anticorruption Prosecutors’ Office completed the investigation and sent the case to court, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Prosecutor General’s Office, on April 21, 2013 the officers stopped a man in Dumbravita village of Sangerei district, informing him that he was suspected of illegal distribution of drugs. They told him that he can avoid being investigated if he pays €3,000. The same scheme was applied against a man from Drochia, who on December 11, 2013 was told to pay €3,000 for not being held accountable for illegal distribution of drugs.

The five police officers were arrested last yearend, shortly after they received the asked money. The Anticorruption Prosecutors’ Office continues the investigation into the case of a civilian, who acted as an intermediary between the policemen and the victims and brought the money to the officers. He was put on the wanted list.
