Five convicted of voter corruption in local elections of 2015

Five residents of Criuleni district were fined by 10,000 lei for corrupting voters in the second round of the local general elections of 2015, IPN reports, quoting the Prosecutor General’s Office.

It was determined that on June 27 and 28, 2015, the culprits offered 50 to 100 lei and bottles of alcoholic beverages to inhabitants of Cimiseni village, persuading these to vote for a particular candidate for mayor of the village. The people voted so and the given candidate win the local elections in Cimiseni.

The culprits pleaded not guilty. The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
