The fishing season is closed starting with July. To be able to fish, those who want must get a permit from the Pisciculture Service, which enables them to fish in the lakes managed by the state. The permit costs 300 lei for the whole fishing season, which closes in April, or 30 lei a day. Pensioners pay half of the price. A permit from the Pisciculture Service is not needed for fishing in leased ponds, but the lessees can levy a tax.

The fishing permits are obtained based on an application submitted to the Pisciculture Service or its branches. Contacted by IPN, the head of the Service’s Human Resources Division Petru Ghenciu said the permit is issued within half an hour. It allows fishing throughout the week, from dawn to dusk, with fishing rods with up to five hooks.

The fine for those who go fishing without a permit is 200 lei. When fishing nets are used illegally, the person can be ultimately sued. If nobody claims the nets stretched illegally, these are destroyed when they are found.
