The first rehabilitation center for people on probation in Moldova is to be opened in Floresti to help these persons easier integrate into society and gain new knowledge and new professional skills, IPN reports.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Justice, at this center the people on probation will be involved in a rehabilitation and psychological counseling program entitled “Motivation for change” and will attend theory and practice courses on using and assembling computers, carpentry, pottery and ceramics.
The beneficiaries will repair and make things and the money earned from selling them will be transferred to their bank accounts. The time spend at the center will depend on the period of probation.
Probation is a relatively new mechanism used in the Moldovan justice system. Its goal is to reduce the number of people sentenced to jail for criminal offenses, use non-arrest measures in relation to those who show wish to improve their behavior, reintegrate them socially and increase the social responsibility of these people.
The center will be inaugurated in Floresti in the afternoon of October 2. The money for setting up the center was provided from the budget of the Central Probation Office that was created including with the financial assistance offered by the EU for reforming the justice sector of Moldova.
