The first hearing in the case of “Casa Modei” and former Asito building after this was sent back to the Ciocana Court is taking place today. The case was distributed to judge of inquiry Sergiu Ciobanu and the hearing starts at 9:30am.

The lawyers for the commercial organization SC “Continental Business Invest” SRL – the legal entity to which “Casa Modei” belongs – calls on the judicial community, the governmental elite and civil society to follow the developments in this case. “We call on the expert community to draw attention to the risk of a dangerous precedent being set in the justices sector in the Republic of Moldova. We also call on the responsible bodies to pronounce on this case and to intervene to stop the serious deviations from the law. Otherwise, the Republic of Moldova has all the chances of taking a new shameful test before the European Court of Human Rights.”

For their part, the lawyers for Veaceslav Platon maintain that the buildings belong to their client and they should be transferred back under his ownership.

In a press release on July 2, 2021, SC ”Continental Business Invest” SRL said that by its decision of June 8, 2021, the court interpreted the law for the benefit of controversial businessman Veaceslav Platon and accepted the appeal of his lawyers, the criminal case being returned to the ordinary court, to another panel of judges. “Continental Business Invest” SRL considers the given ruling is illegal as the decisions of a judge of inquiry are most of the times irrevocable. Also, the Chisinau City Appeals Court’s ruling is basically based on a false test for COVID-19 that was presented in court by the lawyers for Platon with the intention of explaining their absence from the hearing.
