The first conclusions show the efficiency of postal voting as a means of facilitating citizens' participation in voting, wherever they are, said the chairwoman of the Central Election Commission Angelica Caraman. She noted that after the current election, particular aspects will be improved so as to widely apply postal voting in the next elections, IPN reports.
However, as the CEC chief said, despite multiple requests for this practice to have continuity, postal voting is the target of misinformation and forgeries. The CEC possess information about these attempts and referred it to the courts. "We assure the voters that we are concerned about this and focus responsibly so that the runoff presidential election is organized in full compliance and transparently,” said Angelica Caraman.
For the first time in the current election, the Republic of Moldova piloted postal voting in six states, namely: the U.S., Canada, Norway, Sweden, Iceland. Almost 1,800 voters registered for this method of voting. The envelopes with the ballot paper for the runoff presidential election must reach the electoral bureaus of polling stations for postal voting in these countries by 06:00 p.m. on Thursday.
"The envelopes received by the electoral bureau for postal voting shall be processed after the closure of all polling stations in the respective country, with multiple voting being excluded. The systems used on election day are interconnected and communicate in real time the information on the place, time and manner of exercising the right to vote. For the citizens who received the Commission's confirmation of the receipt of the envelope for the runoff vote, the procedure is the same as for the first round of voting. These envelopes are put in a sealed ballot box and will be processed on November 3, after the closure of all polling stations," stated the CEC head.
