First batches of assistance intended for EaP states to arrive this week

The first consignments of medical equipment from the European Union will reach Moldova the next few days. The assistance to the value of €30 million was announced in March and is designed for the six Eastern Partnership (EaP) states, Prime Minister Ion Chicu stated after the June 22 meeting of senior state officials, IPN reports.

The official noted that last week he took part in the summit of EU leaders and leaders and prime ministers of the six EaP states. There were discussed the new priorities with which Moldova agreed, namely economic and social development, human rights, environmental aspect etc.

In another development, Premier Chicu said the largest part of the social benefits and salaries for which the state is responsible were paid.  The budgetary situation is difficult, but satisfactory in the current conditions. The Government continues to make effort to identify additional financial resources for covering the budget deficit.

Ion Chicu also referred to the Government’s road reconstruction plan, noting that repair works are now performed on the Chisinau-Giurgiulești road and on the road to Vulcănești. The building companies assured that the undertaken deadlines will be met. The first tender contest as part of the local roads rehabilitation program “Good Roads” will be held today and the repair works will start in July.
