Fire on Uzinelor St is largest in last 40 years

The fire that destroyed a storehouse located at 9 Uzinelor St in Chisinau is the largest in the last 40 years. The State Construction Inspectorate and the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction are to assess the resistance level of the building that had been on fire for over 27 hours. The information was presented in the November 14 meeting of officials of Chisinau services and divisions, IPN reports.

Head of the Chisinau Emergencies Division Vitalie Grabovski said the fire affected an area of over 4,000 square meters. As the fire started at a height of 20 meters, the firemen could not use all the available equipment.

Deputy Mayor of Chisinau Nistor Grozavu said the storehouse that caught fire was overloaded with goods, including artificial fir trees and decorations for the New Year. He called on the business entities selling such goods to be maximally vigilant.

The municipality will offer financial assistance to the family of the firefighter who died in the line of duty.

The municipal commission for emergencies decided to bar the business entities’ access to the area until all the firefighting equipment there is withdrawn.
