The firefighters put out the fire at the National Philharmonic “Sergei Lunkevich” in Chisinau. The debris continues to be taken away, IPN reports.
The General Inspectorate for Emergencies said the National Philharmonic’s phonotheque was damaged by fire and will be relocated.
President Igor Dodon said that he visited the scene this morning, together with the Prime Minister and minister of education. “The situation at the Philharmonic is deplorable. It is practically impossible to restore the building,” Igor Dodon stated in the program “President Responds”.
According to him, now that the fire was extinguished, the place needs to be cleaned. A new building project should be designed at the second stage, until the end of this year. A special account has been opened for raising funds for the Philharmonic.
The fire at the National Philharmonic started at about midday on September 24. The firefighters managed to localize it in over four hours. The ceiling of the building’s main hall caved in. The cause of fire is yet to be found out.
