Festival “Maria Biesu” brings ballet troupe to Chisinau

This year, the International Opera and Ballet Festival “Maria Biesu”, which will take place on September 9-18, will bring together not only soloists known all over the world, but also a whole ballet troupe, that of the Kiev Modern Ballet Theater. Performances will be given by Moldovan artists with a prodigious career abroad and invitees from over ten countries. The program of the 24th edition of the festival includes the recently restaged ballet in two acts “Spartacus”, by Aram Haciaturian.

Head of the Artistic Impresario Section of the National Opera House “Maria Biesu” Anastasia Surdu has told IPN that this year the festival is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the declaration of Moldova’s independence.

According to the organizers, the International Opera and Ballet Festival “Maria Biesu” became one of the main symbols of the Moldovan culture, while Chisinau became a capital of lyrical art that brings together the best national and foreign artists.

During the ten-day festival, there will be presented four operas and three ballets that will involve well-known artists from Italy, Spain, Poland, Germany, Belarus, Romania, Russia, Ukraine, etc. These are: “The Barber of Seville” by Gioachino Rossini, “La Traviata” by Giuseppe Verdi, “Yevgheny Oneghin” and “Swan Lake” by Piotr Tchaikovsky, “Giselle” by Adolphe Adam, and “Turandot” by Giacomo Puccini. The event ends with a gala concert with famous works of Eugen Doga.

Among the festival’s guests are the soloist of the Opera Theater “La Scala” Natalia Gavrilan, soloist of the Mariinsky Theater Ahmed Agadi, soloist of the Zurich OpernHaus Adrian Tampau, and soloist of the Polish National Opera Pavlo Tolstoy.
