Festival “European Spring of Poets” at its ninth edition

Writers, poets and translators from seven countries are taking part in the ninth edition of the International Festival “European Spring of Poets” that is held in Chisinau during May 7-9. The organizers said the event is an impetus to reanimate translation in Moldova, IPN reports.

In the opening of the event held in the evening of May 7, president of the Writers Union of Moldova Arcadie Suceveanu said this is the largest literary festival staged in Moldova that brings together writers and translators from a number of countries. This event is a holiday of national and international poetry. “The major goal is to make the literature of the Republic of Moldova known on other meridians and to bring cultural values from other regions to our country and establish connection and cooperation bridges between cultural areas,” stated Arcadie Suceveanu.

He noted that dozens of contacts were established with different foreign associations and publishing houses and anthologies in different languages appeared since the festival started to be held. France, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Russia, Azerbaijan and Ukraine are only some of the countries that were penetrated by Moldovan poetry and prose. “For our part, we printed anthologies from Czech short prose, from Azerbaijani poetry and prose. During the current edition of the festival, we will launch several anthologies. One of these is brought from Moscow by poet and translator Evgeniy Stepanov. This is a micro-anthology from our poetry translated into Russian,” said Arcadie Suceveanu.

The almanac of the festival that includes selections from the poems of invitees translated into Romanian and of Moldovan authors whose works were inserted in the program of activities in English will be launched during the event. By tradition, there will be presented two editorial novelties by deceased authors. This year these are selections from the works of Aureliu Busuioc and Dumitru Matcovschi. There will also be launched the Poetry Book 2019.

“From today until May 9, the invitees of the current edition, accompanied by our writers, could attend meetings, poetry recitals at universities, lyceums in Chisinau and all over the country. The event is an impetus to renovate and reanimate translation in our country,” stated Arcadie Suceveanu.

As part of the International Festival “European Spring of Poets”, writers and lovers of literature from Moldova will be able to meet with poets: Farid Huseyn (Azerbaijan), Andy Fierens (Belgium), Linda Maria Baros, Yekta (France), Christian Schenk (Germany), Luba Feldsher (Israel), Magda Cârneci, Eugen Suciu, Daniel Corbu, Valeriu Stancu, Stere Bucovală, George Terziu, Mircea Dan Duță (Romania) and Evgeniy Stepanov (Russia). The festival is organized by the Writers Union of Moldova in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, the Romanian Cultural Institute, the National Museum of Arts of Moldova and others.
