Farmers will not receive state compensations in 2009 if they do not insure land
The farmers will not receive compensations from the state in 2009 if they do not insure their lands, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Anatol Gorodenco said that the next year the farmers will be subsidized in case of natural disasters only if they insure the arable fields or at least 10% of all the agricultural land worked by a farmer.
“This way, we will make the agricultural producers insure the land so as they could easier cope with the calamities. If the agricultural land had been insured according to this system this year, we would have better coped with the consequences of floods,” Anatol Gorodenco said.
So far, the authorities have not yet decided on the size of subventions that will be granted to the farmers affected by the July floods. Gorodenco said that the subventions will be calculated at the Government’s meetings, in line with the budget resources.
More than 1,500 farmsteads and corporate associations were affected by this summer’s inundations. None of these was insured against floods.
About 50,000 hectares of agricultural land out of the existing approximately 1.650 million hectares are now insured in Moldova.
