Farmers from Sângerei, Fălești, Edineț, Ștefan Vodă, Căușeni and other districts have taken to the streets riding tractors and other agricultural machinery, with some of them marching towards Chisinau.
“Farmers from Sângerei district came out today to protest here at the entrance to Sângerei, to ask the government to pay attention to the problems that we face and help us. To support us, because the prices offered today for agricultural products, for the work done by the peasants and the farmers, are extremely low. Meanwhile, the prices of fuels, inputs and seeding material are exaggerated”, one farmer from Sângerei posted on the Facebook account the Farmers’ Force Association.
“Farmers from Hâncești district have set off towards the Leova intersection”, says another Facebook post under video showing a dozen of tractors honking their horns.
“Leova is already on its way to the capital. Together with Cantemir, together with Cahul we are marching forward”, says another farmer.
“These are the consequences of the relevant authorities neglecting the multiple crises in the agricultural sector over the last year. Now farmers are forced to choose between imminent bankruptcy and protesting in the capital city”, declared Farmers’ Force leader Alexandru Slusari.
The government earlier allocated an additional 533 million lei to support farmers affected by the regional economic crisis and is engaged in identifying solutions for exporting exports and compensating the losses suffered by farmers. This was announced today by Prime Minister Dorin Recean during a new round of discussions with representatives of the Association, which was also attended by Minister of Agriculture Vladimir Bolea,.
