A protest is being mounted next to the Government Building. Farmers demand urgent measures from the government to manage the crisis in agriculture, IPN reports.
According to the head of the Farmers' Force Association Alexandru Bădărău, the farmers are asking for the urgent approval of the draft law to overcome the drought crisis in the form proposed by MP Trubcă, the extension of the licensing of the import of grains and oilseeds until December 31, 2025, the payment of subsidy debts for 2023, the refund of farmers' excise duties for 2024, the development of a mechanism of loan and refinancing guarantees for the new agricultural year 2025.
"We didn't really understand what happened in the last three weeks. We want to have a discussion with a representative of the Government. We hope that we will be heard," said Alexandru Bădărău.
The protest was joined by farmers from several regions of the country.
"The knife has reached the bone. Starting with the banking system, you can't breathe without raising loan, from one to another. We take out loans to cover the expenses we incurred on inputs, seeds, and so on. Everyone wins, but not us," said a farmer from Florești district.
"We just want it to be a public meeting, but with the decision-makers, including the governor of the National Bank, to discuss farmers' problems. We need to see what the state's position is towards the economic agents of the country. Do they need us or do they all need us to go bankrupt and leave the country?", said Sergiu Stefanco, a farmer from the south of the country.
The farmers announced that they will protest in front of the Parliament Building on Thursday if the authorities do not take the necessary measures.
At Wednesday’s meeting, the Cabinet approved the draft law on the financing, management and monitoring of the agricultural policy. The new law will ensure a more efficient system of providing financial support in the agricultural sector, which will contribute to increasing the competitiveness of the sector, the sustainable development of the rural environment and the fight against climate change, says the informative note to the bill.
