Farmers move with tractors along Ștefan cel Mare Blvd, disrupt traffic

The protesting farmers travel along the main artery of Chisinau with tractors. According to the police, traffic on particular sections of the street was disrupted. The General Police Inspectorate calls on the drivers to show understanding and mutual respect, IPN reports.

Representatives of the Association “Force of Farmers” today had discussions at the Presidential Palace. According to them, the dialogue was rather tense. The farmers said that on Wednesday they were told particular things by the Premier and the minister of agriculture, but today the President said that the information they received is not accurate.

“First of all, we accentuated that the responsible authorities reacted with great delay and what we anticipated back in September happened now. The reaction is very late. We regrettably found out that the information we received yesterdays from Mister Prime Minister is not accurate and there is no certainty that the European Union will allocate these funds to the Republic of Moldova. We therefore are concerned as we heard one thing from the Premier and minister of agriculture yesterday and now Missis President said that things do not stand like this,” the Association’s leader Alexandru Slusari told the press.

The farmers have protested for several days in the Great National Assembly Square. They parked their tractors in front of the Government Building. They demand that the Government should pay 3,000 lei subsidies per ha of grain corps of the first level at least, clear all the overdue subsidies, ban the import of grain and oilseeds from Ukraine, persuade the Giurgiulesti Port to export first Moldovan agricultural products and modify the VAT refunding procedure.
