A letter purporting to be a response from the European Commission regarding Moldovan authorities’ requests to support agriculture in the Republic of Moldova is circulating in the public space, the Government’s spokesman Daniel Vodă has said, quoted by IPN.

The authorities warn that this is false. Daniel Vodă noted “the format and content errors, which confirm that the document does not come from an official institution of the European Union.” In this regard, the Government calls on the citizens and partners in the agricultural sector to be cautious about information sources and to always verify the accuracy of information.

“All official information is communicated exclusively through our official communication channels and in cooperation with the European institutions,” stressed the Government’s spokesman.

For its part, the Delegation of the European Union in Chisinau noted that this incident is already the third one recorded in recent months and that the alleged letter was intentionally spread through channels other than the official ones.

“The document was sent to civil servants of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry. They recently received a fraudulent letter, which was allegedly sent on behalf of the European Commission. The alleged letter has nothing to do with the EU, and its content is fully false. The EU communicates with the Moldovan citizens and authorities exclusively through its official channels,” said the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova.

In this connection, the EU Delegation stressed that these incidents show how necessary and important it is to intensify, together with the Moldovan authorities, the fight against information manipulation and interference, including against disinformation in the Republic of Moldova.
