Experts say the resolution of the Transnistrian dispute is not a priority for the current government as the authorities now focus on the fight against corruption and deoligarchization. Moreover, there are now no preconditions for identifying a political solution to this conflict and the current government can only prevent a deterioration in the situation, IPN reports.
According to political commentator Anatol Țăranu, the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict depends greatly on the relations between the states involved in the 5+2 format of the talks, while the current political conjuncture does not enable to identify viable solutions to this dispute.
“There is now no chance to identify a political solution to the Transnistrian conflict. The only solution is for this conflict not to degenerate and to cause problems to the strategic European integration course chosen by the current government. This course means deoligarchization and fighting of corruption. Transnistria is not a priority for the current government because the Transnistrian conflict is not only the internal problem of the Republic of Moldova. This conflict depends on the foreign political conjuncture. The settlement process was long ago internationalized and depends not only on Chisinau and Tiraspol, but on all the players involved in the 5+2 format,” Anatol Țăranu started in the talk show “Ghețu Asks” on TV8 channel.
Expert in political sciences Ian Lisnevschi said the small steps policy is appropriate for maintaining a constant dialogue between the sides, while the complete reintegration of the country will occur when the right side of the Nistru becomes attractive to the citizens from the region.
“If the citizens from the left side of the Nistru see progress on the right side of the Nistru, this will stimulate reintegration. The Republic of Moldova becomes attractive for the citizens there. During the last few years, of the 500,000 Transnistrians, 100,000 migrated to the right side of the Nistru as these enjoy more opportunities here. Many already have Moldovan passports and this can be named small reintegration progress. If the current government ensures that any citizen in the Republic of Moldova is protected by law and a well-paid job can be easier found here, for the Transnistrians we will evidently become more attractive,” stated Ian Lisnevschi.
The first meeting in the 1+1 format between the chief negotiators of Chisinau and Tiraspol was held at the office of the OSCE Mission in Tighina on September 3. The entry ban imposed by Ukraine on motor vehicles with Transnistrian license numbers as from September 1 was the main issue discussed by Vladislav Kulminski and Vitaly Ignatiev. According to the Government’s press service, the sides agreed to optimize the activity of the vehicle registration units in Tiraspol and Râbnița towns.
