The exchange of human organs intended for transplantation between the Republic of Moldova and other countries, as well as the import and export of human tissues and cells will be facilitated. Provisions to this effect were approved today by the Government. According to the Health Ministry, access to donated organs through international exchanges increases the chances of cure for patients who are awaiting treatment, IPN reports.
Cross-border organ exchange provides for the strict application of uniform procedural rules for the transmission of information on the evaluation of the organ and the donor, as well as ensuring the traceability of organs. It also provides for the reporting of serious adverse incidents and reactions in order to ensure high standards of quality and safety of organs exchanged across borders.
The import and export of human tissues and cells intended for human use may be carried out by accredited, designated, authorized or licensed tissue establishments licensed by the competent authorities of the Member States.
Responsible for implementing the regulations are authorized transplant healthcare providers under the supervision of the Transplant Agency.
