A number of media nongovernmental organizations prepared a program to mark the Press Freedom Days. In a news conference at IPN, representatives of the NGOs said the situation of the media in Moldova is so bad that a day is not enough for promoting their freedom.
Nadine Gogu, head of the Independent Journalism Center, said that many activities were staged today, May 3, when it is celebrated World Press Freedom Day, but more events will be yet organized, until the end of this month.
The public event “Board of shame: Enemies of the press May 2015 – May 2016” will be mounted in front of the Parliament Building on May 11 to present the names of the public persons who intimidated journalists. The Press Solidarity March 2016 will be staged on May 12 along the route Press House – Government Building – Parliament Building.
On May 16, the Press Council will launch the campaign against plagiarism in the mass media, while on May 17, there will be launched the second quarterly monitoring report “Elements of propaganda, misinformation and information war in the national media space”.
A roundtable meeting entitled “Role of the mass media in promoting energy efficiency” will be held the same day. There will also be launched the third contest “Awards for environment journalism”.
Association of Independent Press executive director Petru Macovei said that a number of debates will be staged in regions on May 18-19 and May 25-26 to discuss false and biased information in the mass media. On the portal mediaforum.md, there will be launched a number of debates, one of which will center on media conglomeration.
On May 20, there will be issued the supplement “European objective” that will be distributed through 15 newspapers and 10 online portals.
