Events in Transnistria and Gagauzia are not accidental, opinion

The latest developments in the Transnistrian region and the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia represent provocations on the part of political forces that want to hamper Moldova’s European course, considers master Petru Neamtu, artistic director and senior conductor of the folk music orchestra “Folclor” of the National Philharmonic “Serghei Lunkevich”.

Contacted by IPN, Petru Neamtu said the events in Transnistria are not organized by ordinary people living there, but by political forces that want to destroy everything. Those events are orchestrated by the Russian Federation, while the delimiting of the so-called border is done with the aim of causing disagreements in society. Petru Neamtu considers that none of those events are accidental.

According to the master, the situation in Gagauzia is generated by forces that fought in the Transnistrian region in 1992 and that probably want to organize a military detachment in the southern region. Society should make effort to keep all the citizens of Moldova together, regardless of the bank on which they live.

The statement on the situation in Transnistria, adopted by Parliament on June 21, says the Transnistrian conflict must be settled by peaceful methods. The legislative body will also adopt a decision with definite steps that must be taken to normalize the situation on the left bank of the Nistru.

Hearings in Parliament were held after the Transnistrian leader Yevgeny Shevchuk signed a so-called legal act on the ‘state border’ that includes the Moldovan-administered village Varnita. Recently, a group of young people from Gagauzia announced that they collected 5,000 signatures in favor of holding a referendum on Gagauzia gaining independence from Moldova.
