Evacuated building has been cut off from water and gas supply

The residential block no.40 on Drumul Viilor Street, evacuated recently after an accident at a neighbouring building site, has been disconnected from gas and water supply to prevent any accidents from happening again, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a press release of the City Hall’s PR division, Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca instructed the Department for Housing and Amenities as well as the water supplier Apa-Canal to inspect the condition of the piping and plumbing systems inside the block. At present, erosion mitigation works are being conducted in the zone, while the foundation pit where the accident occurred is being filled. In addition to the observation post installed at the site, the police have mounted a guard. Firefighters and rescuers are also out there to contribute, while a special commission is set to establish the cause and the possible effects of the collapsed foundation columns. Earlier, the authorities have decided to carry out a technical expertise of the residential block to establish whether it can be further used. To avoid landslides that could affect the building, its about 160 residents were evacuated and lodged at a kindergarten and a school.
