The European Parliament expresses its full support for the new Government of the Republic of Moldova. The country needs reforms in the justice sector, de-politicization of the state institutions and an electoral reform that would comply with the international recommendations, stated Deputy Speaker of the European Parliament Heidi Hautala, who came to Chisinau alongside another three MEPs to discuss the political situation in the country, IPN reports.
Heidi Hautala said the European Parliament welcomes the peaceful transfer of power in the Republic of Moldova and considers the dialogue between parties is essential. The European legislature also supports the Venice Commission’s Opinion about the judgements passed by the Constitutional Court of Moldova.
Heidi Hautala pledged to work with all the colleagues in the EP so as to continue the support provided to Moldova’s Parliament and the dialogue between the parties that form part of it on the reforms needed by the country. “We are aware that the reform agenda is very broad and are glad to see how ambitious the new Government of the Republic of Moldova is and how big its ambitions are for the citizens of Moldova to enjoy these reforms,” stated the official.
The MEPs encouraged Chisinau to have a transparent and open dialogue between the government and the opposition. The EU’s support will materialize when the put trust is supported by the acts of the government that will meet the aspirations of the Moldovan citizens. “War support the implementation of reforms and elements related to the agreements with the EU concerning the future of Moldova and its people’s aspirations and will continue this cooperation in the future,” said Heidi Hautala.
Romanian MEP Siegfried Mureșan said the €100 million in macro-financial assistance is at Moldova’s disposal and the money will come to the country immediately after the conditions are met. If the Government of Maia Sandu is allowed to work, the first tranche of this assistance will be disbursed the coming months. “The previous Government was unable to absorb at least one tranche. If this Government is allowed to do its job, it could absorb all the three tranches during a year,” stated the MEP.
The EP delegation had meetings with Prime Minister Maia Sandu and Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Năstase, President Igor Dodon, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nicolae Popescu and Parliament Speaker Zinaida Grechanyi. The MEPs also discussed with the head of the Democratic parliamentary group Pavel Filip.
