European Parliament resolution is second ‘yellow card’ shown to authorities, opinion

The European Parliament resolution that calls on the European Commission to suspend any foreseen payments of macro-financial assistance and budget support to Moldova is a kind of ‘yellow card’ for the Moldovan authorities. This document ascertains the erosion of the democratic institutions in Moldova. The subject was developed in the talk show “Key issue” on NTV Moldova channel, IPN reports.

Politologist Ernest Vardanean said the European Parliament resolution is the second ‘yellow card’ for the Moldovan authorities, the first card being shown three years ago for the banking fraud. The fact that no conclusions were drawn is the most painful one as three years have passed and the stolen US$ 1 billion wasn’t restored and the cause of the first resolution wasn’t removed.

Executive director of the Institute for Strategic Initiatives Vlad Kulminski said by its resolution, the European Parliament ascertained the erosion of the democratic institutions and perceived the Republic of Moldova as a state at the EU’s border that does not respect any rules. “My conclusion is that the democratic institutions in the Republic of Moldova – the judicial system and the law enforcement agencies – reached a very dangerous line, of the collapse. If this is passed, the citizens will fully distrust these state institutions,” noted Vlad Kulminski.

Journalist Valeriu Demidetskii wondered what principles and values are respected if, how Prime Minister Pavel Filip said, the officials from Brussels phoned him and told him to solve the problem of the invalidation of the local elections. According to him, such a situation in Moldova was reached under the aegis of the European Union.

On July 5, the European Parliament adopted a resolution that calls on the European Commission to suspend any foreseen payments of macro-financial assistance and budget support to Moldova. The MEPs consider any decision on the future payments should be taken only after the planned parliamentary elections and on condition that these are held in accordance with the internationally recognized standards and are assessed by specialized intentional organizations.
