European officials ask Moldova to efficiently carry our reforms in judiciary, human rights and media freedom

The 11th reunion of the Moldova-EU Parliamentary Cooperation Committee took place in Strasbourg, on October 22-23. The European officials reiterated their commitment to support Moldova in the process of European integration, underling the need to efficiently implement the reforms in the judiciary, human rights and media freedom, Info-Prim Neo has learnt from the Moldovan Foreign Ministry. The Moldovan delegation was headed by the Communist MP, Grigore Petrenco, chairing foreign policy and European integration committee, and co-chairing the Moldova-EU Parliamentary Cooperation Committee. The Europarliament's delegation is headed by Marianne Mikko, co-chair of the Committee. According to a communique by Romanian Europarliamentarian Maria Petre, sent to Info-Prim Neo News Agency, in her intervention she asked Grigore Petrenco to comment on the reform of the local public administration in Moldova and “the tendencies to re-centralize it, by decisions of re-installing the state's tutelage and returning to Soviet older tools of pressure and subordination.” Grigore Petrenco's answers did not satisfy the Europarliamentarians' interest, she says. Maria Petre insisted that, although the relationships between Moldova and Romania are more and more fruitful, signing the accord on border small traffic was absolutely indispensable, as it would allow the Moldovan citizens residing 50 km from the Romanian border to enter Romania without visas. In the recommendation addressed by the European Parliament's delegation to the Moldovan authorities, the Romanian parliamentarian underlined the importance of implementing the legal and institutional reforms guaranteeing the respect for human rights and democracy, the right to free expression and the law's authority. Maria Petre asks Moldova and all the states within the Black Sea region to fully profit from the cooperation opportunities offered by the tools of the EU's Naighborhood Policy and of the Black Sea Synergy.
