European MPs recommend the mass-media and civil society from the Republic of Moldova to denounce high level corruption

Mass- media and the civil society, in a first stage of fighting against corruption, must announce to the public cases of corruption and methods that the state uses to cover them up. This is one of the recommendations formulated by members of the European Parliament delegation during the meeting that took place on Wednesday, the 28th of June, with the representatives of several NGOs from the Republic of Moldova. The vice chairman of the Liberal Party, Dorin Chirtoaca, who participated at the meeting, declared for Info-Prim Neo the delegation members, including representatives of former Eastern European block, especially those from Poland, requested the denunciation of corruption cases that would sock the public opinion, their debate in mass-media, including bringing them in front of the Court, where the accomplices to these corruption cases to be punished, meaning state representatives. According to Chirtoaca, the biggest concern of the European MPs delegation is caused by the problem of corruption in the Republic of Moldova, especially ‘big corruption’, meaning the power related one. European MPs think that at this stage it is necessary, especially, to denounce high level corruption, in order to be able to diminish afterwards “ small corruption”, at the level of simple citizen, who is either obliged or has no other choice then to bribe the public servants. Chirtoaca mentioned that the delegation members were interested in the extent at which the declarations regarding corruption fighting are reflected in daily actions of the government. The NGO representatives were reserved in this context, having the opinion that the government doesn’t have a political will to apply declaration and legal provisions in practice. Present at the same meeting, the president of the League for Human Rights Protection (LHRP), Paul Strutzescu, communicated for Info-Prim Neo that the parties were common in the idea that tolerating corruption phenomenon could lead to the failure of the Plan of Actions, the Republic of Moldova – European Union, with negative effects for the entire society. The delegation members expressed their support for corruption fighting related process that take place in the Republic of Moldova, Strutzescu added. During the meeting with Marianne Mikko, head of European Union Committee for Inter-parliamentary cooperation RM-EU delegation, participated representatives of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights, LHRP, Transparency International, the Association for Participative Democracy, the Association for European Integration and the Committee for Human and Professional Dignity Protection.
