The European institutions supported financially the work of the parliamentary commission that is investigating the April 2009 events, but the money was not managed by the commission, but by the Council of Europe. The commission's chairman, the Liberal-Democrat MP Vitalie Nagachevski does not know how much money was allocated, but says it was mainly used to remunerate the foreign experts. The money also went to finance a fact-finding visit to Brussels paid by two members of the commission. In Brussels, they met with European human rights experts and experts who assisted the commission in sketching the final report, Vitalie Nagachevski said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. According to him, the European expert who helped the commission to prepare the report in Moldova was also paid with those money. “Two foreign experts who will examine the videos and photographs taken on April 7, 2009 and pronounce on the performance of the governors and the police will be remunerated with the same money,” Nagacevski said. The Alliance for European Integration decided that the commission's report will be presented at the April 23 sitting of the Parliament, before the foreign experts formulate their opinions. “Given the European bureaucracy, we agreed not to wait for the experts' conclusion, but attach it later to the decision that will be made,” the commission's chairman said. Earlier, Vitalie Nagachevski told Info-Prim Neo that the 11 members of the commission have not been remunerated for their work. They only received salaries of MP. The commission discussed with hundreds of witnesses and examined video, audio and photo proofs that will be submitted to the Prosecutor General's Office. The European Commission allocated money for supporting the work of the parliamentary commission of inquiry into the April 2009 events and asked the Council of Europe to distribute it.
