European Commissioner for Health and Consumer Policy Tonio Borg agreed to pay a visit to Moldova following an invitation made by acting Prime Minister Vlad Filat in a meeting in Brussels on March 14, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a communiqué from the Government, the two officials discussed the relations between Moldova and the EU and the European integration process in Moldova. They made reference to the fact that the sixth round of talks on the DCFTA has taken place this week and the 15th round of the talks on the Association Agreement is to be held to finish the negotiation of the sanitary and phytosanitary measures. Vlad Filat said that the Republic of Moldova managed to reintroduce the sanitary and phytosanitary services at customs posts so as to fully trace the food products of animal and non-animal origin. The authorities intend to diversify the list of products of animal origin that may be exported to the EU. Only the export of honey is now authorized. It is important that the Commission provide support to finish the necessary procedures in the EU so as to authorize the export of poultry, eggs and fish products. It was proposed organizing an assessment mission of the Directorate General for Health and Consumers of the European Commission (DG SANCO) in Chisinau by the end of this year. Commissioner Tonio Borg mentioned the considerable progress made in adjusting the national standards to the EU standards on sanitary and phytosanitary services.
