European Commission Delegation will present report on implementation of EU-Moldova Action Plan next week
The European Commission Delegation to Moldova next week will present a report on the implementation of the EU-Moldova Action Plan. On the basis of the report, the EU states will further consider the possibilities of offering assistance to Moldova. The announcement was made by the head of the European Commission Delegation to Moldova Cesare de Montis at the international conference “Settlement of the Transnistrian Conflict in the Context of Moldova’s Europeanization” on March 27, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The European official said that during the next months the delegation will work out a new accord that will replace the present partnership and cooperation agreement between Moldova and the EU. The conclusions that were unanimously adopted by the Council of Ministers of the EU later in February clearly showed the wish of the 27 EU member states to strengthen the relations with Moldova, Cesare de Montis said. He stressed that the bilateral relations in the future will develop dynamically.
The British Ambassador to Moldova John Beyer said that the preeminence of the law, the eradication of corruption and the attitude towards the territorial unit of Gagauzia are the key aspects which Moldova should ponder over to become more attractive for Transnistria. According to the ambassador, Moldova made significant progress in improving democracy and supremacy of the law. Despite certain problems, Moldova chose a good way and must continue the reforms if it wants to join the EU, John Beyer said.
Zygimantas Pavilionis, the under secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, said that Moldova achieved good results in the past six months and made considerable effort for a so small country. In the future, Moldova should impress its European colleagues with its seriousness in promoting and implementing democratic reforms.
The chairman of the Parliamentary Commission for Foreign Policy and European Integration Grigore Petrenco, who delivered a speech instead of the Speaker, said that as long as Moldova remained dismembered it could not join the EU. He stated that the talks in the 5+2 format should be resumed as soon as possible. Petrenco denied the existence of secret talks for settling the Transnistrian dispute. “A number of experts consider that Moldova’s closeness to Russia is not so beneficial, but we consider that the relations with Russia must become even better because this is in Moldova’s interests,” the MP said. “No one wants that Moldova is Transnistrianized and that the Transnistrian region becomes a colony,” Grigore Petrenco stressed.
The international conference “Settlement of the Transnistrian Conflict in the Context of Moldova’s Europeanization” was held in Chisinau on March 26-27 and brought together officials, politicians, representatives of international organizations and political analysts from a number of states.
