European Action Movement organises scientific conferences on Transnistrian conflict

The European Action Movement (MAE) organises in Chisinau, Criuleni, Rezina and Straseni more scientific conferences and meetings with veterans on the topic “The Nistru War: 16 years after,” Info-Prim Neo reports. The actions are occasioned by the 16th anniversary of the start of the Transnistrian conflict on March 2. According to a news release of the Movement, quoted by Info-Prim Neo, at a recent meeting on this topic in the Criuleni town, the participants asked the central and local bodies to qualify, in their official papers, the events that took place in 1991-1992 as a Moldovan-Russian war, with the official name “The War for Defending the Independence and Territorial Integrity of Moldova.” The participants called on authorities and the civil society to turn the day of Macrh 2 into an occasion to remember the nation’s heroes, who had sacrificed themselves for the country and its people. The attendants also drew conclusions that the heroic deeds of their fellow combatants were not used to educate the young generation. MAE plans to ask the authorities to give the name of martyr and hero Filip Lupascu to a street in the town of Criuleni. MAE is solidary with the participants’ concern with the possible signing of a “Voronin - Putin” bilateral accord, what would undermine Moldova as a sovereign state. The Movement leaders believe that, alongside the efforts to withdraw the Russian troops and armament stockpiled in Moldova, new accents are required to internationalise the conflict through political, economic and diplomatic means that the Washington– Brussels – Bucharest– Chisinau – Kiev axis might offer.
