European action “A city without cars” began in Chisinau
The interim mayor of Chisinau Vasile Ursu has came to work in the morning of Friday, September 19, on a bicycle, thus promoting the European action “A city without cars” that is taking place for already 2 days in Chisinau.
According to a press release of the City Hall, Ursu expressed his availability to come to work riding a bike in other mornings as well, although he claimed he has no time. The interim mayor has also called to his assistants to give up their cars for one day.
According to the “A city without cars” Declaration and Common Paper of the European Committee, which Chisinau municipality has also signed, on September 23 the City Hall arranged for a number of actions, contests and the festival entitled “Clean air in the City”. The municipal services have reconstructed the road markings of the cycling track of the “City Gates – Academy of Science of Moldova” route and forwarded suggestions for other similar tracks.
Within the European Union “A city without cars” initiative, on September 23 between 13:00 – 17:00 hours on the portion of Stefan cel Mare Boulevard between Puskin and Ismail Streets only public transport will be granted access, and between 16:00-16:30 the same portion will be opened only for pedestrians.
