Europe Day celebrated under theme “EU-Moldova: Stronger Together”

Europe Day 2023 is marked through a series of cultural, interactive and educational events in various regions of the Republic of Moldova under the theme of EU-Moldova: Stronger Together. The Europe Day 2023 activities will take place throughout May and will highlight the values and culture of the European Union, as well as the assistance provided by the EU and its Member States, for the benefit of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova.

Jānis Mažeiks, Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, noted that Europe Day is a day to celebrate peace and unity throughout Europe. “As the first anniversary of “EU candidate country status” is approaching, we congratulate Moldovan as their country has chosen the European path. The path of reforms for the inviolability of the human dignity, the path of respecting fundamental freedoms of its citizens. Moldova has chosen democracy and rule of law. The brutal war of aggression of Russia against Ukraine has proven to us how important solidarity is to protect the lives of citizens and preserve our economies! Solidarity is the pillar that unites people, countries, and continents. Solidarity is a about humanity. In the spirit of solidarity, we invite all Moldovans to join us at Europe Day events throughout the country, together we are stronger!” said Jānis Mažeiks.

This year, the traditional European Village is open for the public in Chișinău and Leova. In the capital city, the European Village is organized on 13 May, in the Great National Assembly Square, followed in the evening by an exceptional concert by Marcel Ștefăneț & Ethno Republic, Opincuța Folk-Group, SATOSHI, and Zdob și Zdub ethno-rock band.

The people from the Southern region of Moldova will be able to participate at the European Village event on 20 May, in the downtown of Leova. The event in Leova will culminate with a remarkable concert performed by the `Doina Covurluiului` ensemble from Galați, invited by the Embassy of Romania to the Republic of Moldova and ICR Chișinău, and the famous Zdob și Zdub ethno-rock band.

European cuisine will be a part of both European Villages that will also host a series of cultural and interactive activities for everyone, including children.

Additional events to mark Europe Day 2023 will be organized in Cahul, Ungheni, Bălți etc. in cooperation with EU-funded projects, local authorities and the network of Euro-clubs and European Information Centers throughout the country.

The traditional European Film and Culture Festival will take place in various localities of the Republic of Moldova, including villages and cities, during 11 to 31 May.

When the EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova issued its press release, the Government decision by which May 13 was declared a workday instead of May 8, which was declared a day off, remained in force.
