“Eugene Ionesco” Theater goes on Japanese strike
All the actors involved in the plays of “Eugene Ionesco” Theater will carry white ribbons around arms from January 4 in protest at the postponement of the process of naming the institution’s director, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the theater.
“Given that the repeated approaches made to Minister of Culture Boris Focsa to deal with the designation of a director for the theater were ignored, “Eugene Ionesco” Theater is forced to resort to a public form of protest,” reads the communiqué. The theater’s employees reserved the right to also use other forms of public protest against the minister’s decision.
Early in December, the administration of “Eugene Ionesco” Theater told a news conference that the minister of culture declared war on the theater and has postponed naming the theater’s director since September.
