EU provides new support for managing energy crisis and supporting Transnistrian region

The European Union will offer more support to the Transnistrian region in addition to the recently provided assistance, for a period of ten days, assured European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, who is on a working visit to the Republic of Moldova. At a press conference held together with President Maia Sandu, the European official assured that the European Union will continue to stand by Moldova until the energy sector becomes fully independent and integrated into the European market, IPN reports.

Moldova and the European Union signed a new support agreement to the value of €310 million:  €250 million for the right bank and €60 million for the left bank.

"We have seen that Russia is trying to turn energy independence into blackmail. Today's aid is a sign of solidarity shown by the EU Member States. These packages represent only a part of the support offered to the Republic of Moldova, but they demonstrate our solidarity," said Marta Kos.

President Maia Sandu said that for the next support package, valid until the end of the heating season, a number of conditions are to be met, which will be announced by the government. With the support of the European Union, Moldova will overcome this crisis as well.

"Moldova has already taken firm steps to become energy independent. For two years, on the right bank, we are no longer vulnerable to blackmail with natural gas," said President Sandu.

Moldova recently received  €64 million in grant funding from the  European Commission for managing the energy crisis on both banks of the Nistru River.
