The European Union will support the development programs of health care services in Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova. It will also financially support education and social inclusion projects and vocational training programs for refugees. For this purpose, the European Commission allocated 26.2 million euros.
The money was initially earmarked for the European Union’s cooperation programs with Russia and Belarus. Following Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine and in line with measures adopted by the EU in March 2022, the Commission suspended cooperation with Russia and its ally Belarus. The money intended for EU cooperation with the two states was repurposed for the development of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova.
“This will help support the development of health care services, strengthen the institutional capacity of Ukrainian and Moldovan public authorities, finance the development of education and research projects or social inclusion systems, as well as vocational training programs for refugees”, the EU Delegation to Moldova said.
Recently, the Ministry of Finance announced that the aid offered by the European Union, in the form of a 75 million euros grant for budget support, arrived in its accounts. The money is intended to support the vulnerable population affected by high energy prices and will help alleviate the economic pressure associated with the inflow of refugees from Ukraine.
