EU has permission of member countries to launch talks with Moldova on visa facilitation – Cesare de Montis

The European Union received the permission of member countries to start talks with Moldovan authorities as regards offering visas for Moldovan citizens, the head of the European Commission’s Delegation to Moldova, Cesare de Montis declared on October 24. The European official said that this is good news for Moldova, but he emphasized the fact that he cannot predict when and how this agreement will be signed. “At present we acknowledge how hard it will be for Moldovan citizens to obtain visa, financially speaking and bearing in mind bureaucracy, especially after Romania and Bulgaria will join the EU”, de Montis said, specifying that the severe policy on visa issuance is one of the contradictions which might be ascertained in the intentions of EU to have good neighborhood relations with Moldova. Previously, Marian Lupu declared in Brussels that one of the issues tackled in the European city was the one regarding a joint visa center. Chisinau obtained the confirmation that such a center will be created, and that the leader country in this system will be Hungary, Lupu added. In the same context, he specified that he obtained the support of the political groups as regards starting talks on facilitation of visas for Moldovan citizens by the end of this year.
