In the initial period of the energy crisis in the eastern region of Moldova, three main actors were involved: Moscow, Tiraspol and Chisinau. Within this triangle, events that are not always clear to the general public were witnessed. For example, over a month ago, Russian natural gas and partially electricity disappeared in this region, just like in the stories about the "Bermuda triangle". After analyzing the position of the Russian Federation in this "triangle", during the debate of 03.02.25, IPN News Agency staged a new public debate during which experts discussed the actions and position of Tiraspol.
Igor Boţan, the permanent expert on IPN’s project, said that the "Bermuda Triangle" is an area in the Atlantic Ocean located between the U.S. state of Florida, Puerto Rico and Bermuda. It is believed that ships and aircraft disappear there without a trace.
According to him, among the explanations of this phenomenon, the most popular is related to the explosion of methane gas in oceanic deposits of gas hydrates. The hypothesis is that when methane gas rises to the surface, the water becomes saturated with gas bubbles and the density of the mixture decreases sharply, as a result of which the vessel loses its buoyancy and sinks. It is suggested that methane, once in the air, can also cause planes to crash, for example, due to a decrease in air density, which leads to a decrease in lift and distortion of altimeter readings.
The expert noted that the so-called "Transnistrian Moldovan Republic" is a self-proclaimed and unrecognized entity, a fragment of the former Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic. It is mainly located on the left bank of the Nistru River, along the border with Ukraine, and also includes the city of Bender, located on the right bank of the Nistru River. Transnistria declares itself an independent state, but de facto it is not recognized.
Igor Boţan also said that, according to the Constitution, the Law on the Basic Provisions of the Special Legal Status of the Localities on the Left Bank of the Nistru (Transnistria) and the Law on the Administrative-Territorial Organization of the Republic of Moldova, most of the territory controlled by Tiraspol is part of the Republic of Moldova, as an autonomous territorial entity.
Political scientist Gennady Ciorba, former head of the communication, information and media service of the Transnistrian region, currently a human rights activist, believes that in this whole situation, Moscow's actions were part of the hybrid war waged on the Republic of Moldova. According to him, Tiraspol has always been used as an instrument to press the constitutional authorities in Chisinau to carry out the policy that the Kremlin wants.
That is why, according to the activist, for 30 years, appropriate resources have been channeled into the Transnistrian region so that, at the right time, at Moscow's command, Tiraspol will execute any order coming from the Kremlin. "But it turned out that not always, first of all the current administration, is ready to execute all the instructions coming from the Kremlin," said Gennady Ciorba.
Respectively, the activist noted, the stake was one, but the ultimate result was different and, as a result, Moscow's strategic plan regarding the Republic of Moldova was thwarted. Even so, the Transnistrian region continues to be seen as an instrument for destabilizing the situation in the Republic of Moldova, already at a tactical level and not strategically. Parliamentary elections will take place in Moldova this year and Moscow has not given up its desire to influence and form in Chisinau a government that suits it and is loyal to it.
