The Embassy of Ukraine in Chisinau disseminated information about the changes to the border crossing procedure, which apply to citizens of other states. The Ukrainian government approved the changes on December 19 last year, but made them public only recently, IPN reports.
In a communiqué, the Embassy says the foreigners who cross the border with Ukraine, including the Moldovans, must prove that they have money for the stay. For a one-month stay in Ukraine, the foreigners must have at least 23,500 Hrivnas (36,600 lei). The amount is calculated based on the minimum subsistence level (according to the situation on January 1 this year), multiplied by 20.
So as not to have to return, the Embassy of Ukraine calls on the Moldovans to clearly indicate the purpose of the trip to Ukraine and to show that they have the required financial resources. When the foreigners are banned from entering Ukraine, the Ukrainian customs officers must explain the decision in written form.
Foreign Minister Natalia Gherman said they had discussions with the Ukrainian authorities and asked them not to impose the given restrictions on Moldovans. If an agreement is not reached, Moldova may respond with similar acts.
