Electricity loss surges in cold season
Energy losses in networks managed by Gas Natural Fenosa are increasing substantially in the cold period of the year mainly due to electricity thefts, Info-Prim Neo learned from Alexandru Braileanu, director of Network Management at Gas Natural Fenosa.
Alexandru Braileanu made the statement during an information seminar. In November, the level of losses was 21%, a lot higher than during summer months. "The level of losses has risen because commercial losses increased, mostly because of electricity thefts, which amounted to 24 mln kWh. It is a huge figure", said the director.
He added that the electricity was usually stolen through direct illicit connections to the network at night and by the introduction of special devices in energy meters that alter the measurement. "It's true that lately the theft curve is slightly declining, but the amount of thefts is still considerable. The amount of energy stolen through more elaborate, hard-to-detect ways, is increasing", he said.
Gas Natural Fenosa forecasts a total loss level of 13.5% for 2011.
