Electricity from solar light to be produced at Oncology Institute

Photovoltaic solar panels will be installed at the Oncology Institute in Chisinau on an area of 6,600 square meters. Using light and heat energy from the sun, they will produce 300,000 kW of electric power or 15% of the annual volume of electricity consumed by the institution, Info-Prim Neo reports. Within this project, the Government of Japan will provide 417 million yen (about €3.4 million) in non-reimbursable financial assistance to Moldova. The Moldovan executive empowered Minister of Health Andrei Usatyi to sign the financing agreement with Japan. Costs will be incurred to prepare the given area before installing the photovoltaic panels. There will be also placed a screen for monitoring the electricity indicators and for managing and maintaining the photovoltaic system. The costs of over 1 million lei will be covered by the Oncology Institute from its budget, said the minister of health. Andrei Usatyi also said that the costs will be recovered shortly as the electricity obtained from solar light will contribute to more efficient power consumption at the medical institution. Moreover, the use of nonpolluting technologies and sources of energy is a global imperative objective. According to meteorologists, the sun in Moldova shines for 2,050 to 2,300 hours. There are between 280 and 300 sunny days a year in Moldova.
