Electricity consumption increased by 8%

On Friday, electricity consumption on the right bank of the Dniester increased by 8.3% compared to the previous day, amounting to 15,098,000 kWh. According to the Ministry of Energy, this demand was fully met through commercial contracts without activating emergency agreements, IPN reports.

"Over the past 24 hours, electricity consumption in the Republic of Moldova was fully covered through commercial contracts, without the need to activate emergency agreements," stated a press release.

More than half of the required volume was imported from Romania, with the remainder produced domestically. Details regarding the energy sources are as follows:

The Government's Crisis Cell also noted that sufficient commercial capacity has been reserved at the Romanian border to meet the consumption needs for January 4.

Since January 1, the right bank of the Dniester has ceased receiving electricity from the Cuciurgan Power Plant. Meanwhile, the MGRES power plant has transitioned to coal-based operations, supplying the electricity needed for the Transnistrian region. Available coal stocks are expected to last 30-50 days. However, due to higher local electricity consumption than production, rolling blackouts are occurring in the region.

In this context, the Government's Crisis Cell stated that central authorities are maintaining constant communication with mayors of affected localities to exchange information about the situation and are ready to provide assistance.
