Electricity compensations for entrepreneurs will be granted until yearend

Entrepreneurs will receive compensations for electricity until the end of this year and not only for the months of January, February and March, as it was previously announced. The Cabinet on Monday approved a draft law that extends this period, IPN reports.

"We are extending the period so that support will be provided throughout the year. Initially, the compensations were only planned for January, February and March, but with the help of our European partners, we can extend the measure to cover the entire year 2025. We are doing this so that entrepreneurs can adjust and accommodate themselves to these new costs," said Deputy Prime Minister Dumitru Alaiba, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization.

According to the official, the draft law transposes the Commission for Emergency Situations’ decision regarding the compensation of costs following the increase in electricity charges for entrepreneurs.

"We will continue to compensate 50% of the increase in the electricity charge for entrepreneurs in those sectors that are strategic for the economy. But we want the program to become more accessible and efficient," said Minister Alaiba.

To be eligible, electricity expenses in 2024 had to represent at least 3% of the company's revenue. The new draft eliminates this threshold in order to avoid inequities. It was found that two similar companies can have the figure very close. For example, one - 2.9% and the other - 3.1%. Respectively, one was eligible for compensation and the other was not.

The deadline for submitting applications for compensation is extended from 10 to 30 days of the bill issuing date.
