Electric train might run between Kuchurgan and Odessa

Ukraine is in favor of restoring the Chisinau-Odessa train route through Kuchurgan, but is against introducing a diesel train on the electrified railroad between Kuchurgan and Odessa. In a news conference on August 23, Ukrainian Ambassador in Chisinau Serghii Pyrozhkov said that Ukraine might provide an electric train that will run between Kuchurgan and Odessa. “It depends on Chisinau and Tiraspol if the train goes through the Transnistrian segment of 47 km,” he said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. The Ambassador reiterated the Ukrainian authorities' position that the diesel train Chisinau-Odessa does not meet the standards of the electrified Ukrainian railroad. “Ukraine is not against reintroducing the diesel train, but there is no one to service this train. A solution is to provide an electric train that will connect Kuchurgan and Odessa. Chisinau and Tiraspol are to agree on this train's movement via Transnistria,” he said. The model of restoring the Chisinau-Odessa train route was proposed by European experts. Moldova's Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Victor Osipov said earlier that the Chisinau-Odessa train could resume work at the middle of July.
