Elections will take place on April 5, thinks Urecheanu
Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN) leader Serafim Urecheanu on Monday confirmed reports that parliamentary polls will take place on April 5.
MP Serafim Urecheanu told a talk-show on Pro TV channel that the date will be officially set on February 2, when Parliament is due to resume its work after the winter recess. This means that the election campaign will begin on February 3, thinks Urecheanu.
Earlier, a group of AMN lawmakers proposed a motion to set the election day for March 22, but the proposal was voted down by the parliamentary majority. Urecheanu thinks the Communists Party has protracted the announcement of the election day in order to gain an extra month in power.
The four-year term of the current legislature expires on March 7. According to the Election Code, the parliamentary poll day shall be set no later than 60 days before the elections.
