Elections in constituency No. 38 Hâncești: profile of candidate Olesea Stamate

The article forms part of a series that presents biographical data, information about the incomes, property and professional experience of the candidates for MP in single-member constituency No. 38 Hâncești.

The candidate of the Action and Solidarity Party Olesea Stamate comes third on the ballot. She is a jurist by profession. In June – November 2019, she served as minister of justice in the Government of Maia Sandu.

In 2012-2019, she worked as the president and project director of the Association for Efficient and Responsible Governance. In 2011-2017, she served as an expert for different projects supported by the EU, UNDP, UNWOMEN, offering consultancy in the reform of the central public administration intuitions. She took part in the external independent assessment of a number of programs and projects implemented by the development partners.

In 2006, during a year, she worked as project coordinator at Soros Foundation Moldova. Since 2007, during three years, she served as program director at this Foundation, in change of Good Governance, Public Administration and the European Initiative Program. In 2002-2006, she acted as the co-founder and president of the NGO Young European Federalists and earlier served as manager of the municipal paper “Capitala”.

Olesea Stamate studied law at the State University of Moldova (1999-2004). In 2004, she obtained a diploma in political sciences from the Invisible College of Moldova. One year later, she got a master’s degree in European Interdisciplinary Studies from the College of Europe (Natolin) based in Warsaw, Poland.

According to the property and interests statement submitted to the Electoral Council of the Hâncești Electoral District, Olesea Stamate and her husband during January 1, 2018 – December 31, 2019 earned over 3.2 million lei salaries. The candidate also declared over 6,000 lei earned from teaching, scientific and creation activities. Also, together with her husband, she gained 20,000 lei by selling property and 21,700 lei in child benefit.

The candidate owns a part of an apartment to the value of over 437,000 lei and rents a part of a house worth over 1.795 million lei. She has a Porsche car acquired in 2019, which costs over 1 million lei. She also has €70,000 in a savings account and over €35,000 in a checking account.

Olesea Stamate was born on December 20, 1983 in Chisinau. She is married and has three children.

The Central Election Commission set new parliamentary elections in Hâncești for March 15 after Democratic MP Alexandru Botnari renounced the seat of MP won in this constituency in favor of the post of mayor of Hâncești municipality that he secured in the November 3 mayoral runoffs.
