The campaign prior to the October 20 presidential election and constitutional referendum begins on Friday, September 20, which is one month before the election. The four candidates registered so far in the presidential race and also the 10 registered referendum campaigners can carry out electoral agitation activities from tomorrow, IPN reports.
September 20 is also the last day when initiative groups can submit to the Central Election Commission subscription lists with signatures in support of the candidates nominated for the position of President.
So far, four candidates have been registered in the electoral competition, namely: former prosecutor general Alexandr Stoianoglo, supported by the Party of Socialists; President Maia Sandu, nominated by the Party of Action and Solidarity; former mayor of Balti municipality Renato Usatyi, designated by Our Party, and former Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev, fielded by the Party for the Future of Moldova.
The subscription lists brought by ex-Prime Minister Ion Chicu, former Bashkan Irina Vlah, former leader of the DA Platform Andrei Năstase, former anticorruption prosecutor Victoria Furtună, and historian Octavian Țîcu, supported by the Bloc “Together” are being examined.
Thirteen initiative groups have been registered by now. Signatures in support of four potential presidential candidates can still be presented to the CEC on Friday.
September 20 is also the last day on which application for registration as referendum campaigners can be submitted. So far, 10 referendum campaigners have been registered, two of which with the “No” option, and the others with the “Yes” option.
