The mechanism of election and dismissal of deputy mayors will be standardized for all local public authorities of Moldova. The Government has approved a draft law in this regard.
The legislative initiative wants to eliminate bottlenecks in the area of appointment and activity of local public authorities. Thus, if the draft decision on the election or dismissal of a deputy mayor is excluded from the agenda for two consecutive local council meetings or does not meet the required number of votes at two consecutive meetings, the mayor appoints / discharges from office the deputy mayor via a provision that informs the council.
Additionally, the bill aims to amend the election process of the district president, which involves councilors being voted into office. The Government says that in order to increase the representativeness of the district presidents, the revision of art. 49 paragraph (4) of the Law on local public administration is required.
