Ejection contenders about postponement of Appeals Court’s decision

Political pressure is being exerted on the court of law, said election contestants, explaining the repeated postponement of the examination of challenges to the CEC’s decision to establish only 146 stations for the Moldovan abroad by the Chisinau City Appeals Court, IPN reports.

Ștefan Gligor,  the leader of the Party of Change that was officially registered as a runner in the July 11 elections, does not think the court will rule in favor of the diaspora and will oblige the CEC to increase the number of polling stations abroad.

“The fact that the process is delayed shows that there is no interest and political influence is exerted on the court. We cannot bank on the court. Our calculations show that 212 polling stations are needed given the number of preregistrations. The role of the CEC was to anticipate the events, not only to ascertain the realties at the previous elections,” Ștefan Gligor stated in the talk show “Black Box” on TV8 channel.

PPPDA MP Vasile Năstase believes a part of the blame is borne by Parliament, which didn’t amend the Election Code so as to ensure everyone can exercise the right to vote.

“This wouldn’t have happened if my bill on the introduction of two voting days for the diaspora had been voted. Neither the Socialists nor the Democrats wanted to support this bill. Besides the two voting days, the bill allowed to introduce electronic tablets and to supplement the number of ballots for each polling station from 5,000 to 10,000,” said Vasile Năstase.

The Chisinau City Appeals Court’s hearing to examine the challenges to the CEC decision filed by a number of parties was put off for four times. Today the Court will try again to examine the case.
